Para Summary Practice for CAT and MAT with Answers

A para summary question gives a short passage and asks for the option that summarises it most faithfully. The right option keeps the main idea and adds nothing the passage does not say. The answers below explain why the correct summary works and why the nearest alternatives do not.

Para summary में अनुच्छेद का सबसे ईमानदार सार चुनना होता है। सही विकल्प मुख्य बात बनाए रखता है और कुछ नया नहीं जोड़ता। उत्तर में कारण दिया है।

How to solve para summary questions

  1. Read the passage and state its main point in one sentence before you read the options.
  2. Remove options that add a claim the passage never makes.
  3. Remove options that exaggerate, for example by using words such as always, never or guarantee.
  4. Pick the option that keeps both the main point and any important condition.

Tips to score better

Frequently asked questions

How long should my own summary be?

One sentence is enough for these questions. Write the main point in your own words and then match it to the closest option.

Why are extreme words risky?

Words such as always, never and guarantee make a claim stronger than most passages support, so options with them are often wrong.

What if two options both look close?

Compare each with the passage. The correct one includes the main point and the key condition, while the other leaves one out or adds something.
